Saturday Medal Wrap – Sunshine, Chill, and Sharp Play
What a cracker of a winter’s day for golf – the sun was out, the breeze had a bite, and the fairways were buzzing with energy for the Monthly Medal on Saturday 7th June. With layers on backs and determination in hearts, the field delivered a quality day’s golf that lit up the course.
Bill Davidson – Raising the Tankard with a Vintage Display
Let’s tip the cap to Bill Davidson, who turned in a performance to remember. His net 69 in Division 3 was enough to take top honours and the cherished tankard.
Bill’s form is heating up like a car dashboard in the winter sun – two net eagles and a well-earned victory. Clearly, age is no barrier when the swing is smooth and the focus is sharp.
Captain’s Class – James Sowerby Leads by Example
Not to be outdone, Club Captain James Sowerby showed his class with the best gross of the day – a 72 off the stick. That’s no mean feat with a chill in the air and firm greens underfoot. Ice in the veins? Maybe. But that round was all sunshine and skill.
Division Champions – Chilly Conditions, Warm Results
-
Division 1: Danny King led the way with a solid net 72, edging out a tightly packed group including David Harding, James Sowerby, and Matt Evans.
-
Division 2: Peter Annakin took top spot with a tidy 70.
-
Division 3: Bill Davidson — standing tall and playing even taller — claimed the title with a 69.
Highlights – Birdies, Net Eagles & Twos
Net Eagles – Flying High
Top mentions go to:
-
Simon Hayes – 3 net eagles (on a mission, clearly)
-
Bill Davidson, Pat White, Geoff McDonald, and David Grant – each carding a pair of chilly-day eagles that warmed the leaderboard.
Birdie Watch
Plenty of sunshine golf included:
-
James Sowerby and Danny King – 3 birdies apiece
-
Joel Popplewell, Simon Hayes, David Grant, and others – making the most of the clear skies and friendly pin placements.
Twos – One Sweet Shot
A cool collection of twos landed, with special mention to:
-
Simon Hayes (again!) – with 2
-
Peter Sim, Joel Popplewell, Danny King, David Grant, and more – all showing pinpoint accuracy on the short holes.
Prize Rundown – Winners and… the Jackpot?
Yes – the jackpot had the last laugh this week! Both the Birdies and Net Eagles prizes were scooped up by the mysterious force known as "M. Pot, Jack". That’s right, the pot stays full, untouched and growing – so next week’s field will have plenty to chase.
Keep your swing warm – the next jackpot could be yours!
Other prize highlights:
-
Longest Putt – Gavin Hastings
-
Nearest the Pin – Matt Evans & Lewis Ferguson
-
Random Card Draw – Frank Anderson takes home $50 in credit.
Ladies’ Results – Hidden in the Clubhouse Vault!
We know you're curious... but the Ladies’ scores remain locked away, waiting for their grand reveal during the Tuesday Showdown. The anticipation is building, and we can't wait to see who shines brightest.
Here’s to more sunny skies, crisp fairways, and quality company out on course. Same again next Saturday – bring your A-game and a beanie, just in case.
