Saturday Medal Day – 31 January 2026
There was a strange yellow thing in the sky today – rumour has it, it’s called the sun. After a few weeks of moody Queenstown weather, it finally made an appearance, and while a little breeze joined the party midway through the round, it turned into a very enjoyable day of golf.
The men teed off the white tees, the ladies began their first round of the Medal, and all in all it was the kind of day that reminded us why we love this course – even when the balls don’t always love us back.

Terry McBride, Jaydee Oh and David Grant, one day someone will get a photo with El Presidante Julie Grant in it. She's always the one behind the camera.
Everyone else don't be afraid to snap a shot of your group or the amazing scenery, anything to bring a smile or a snicker when you read the results.

Two’s Club
Plenty of precision putting and pin-hunting today:
Matt Groves, who claims his two was “almost a hole-in-one”, led the charge — we’ll let the replay decide that one. He was joined by Ken McKenzie, Neil Watson, Tom James, Andrew Gunn, Rex Duncan, Allan Slater, Conor O’Boyle, and James Sowerby, all pocketing $11 each
Birdies & Net Eagles
Birdie Hole: #16
Congratulations to Adam Dawson and Steven Ridley, both cashing in for $50 each – that’s how it’s done!
Net Eagle Hole: #14
After that dastardly Jack Pot hoarded the winnings last week, the spoils finally made it back to the members. Jesse McKenna, Errol Frewen, and Tony Moran each walked away with a tidy $88 – well deserved!
Special Prizes
Ladies’ Medal – Round 1
The ladies’ first round of the Medal teed off with plenty of smiles and sunshine to start their two-round challenge. While no twos or birdies appeared on the scorecards, Anne Hailes picked up $13 for her Net Eagle on Hole 9, and Marti Groves nailed the Nearest the Pin on 11, earning herself a Neat Meat Voucher
.
Round two continues on Tuesday, so we’ll have the full results wrap-up then — stay tuned!
Final Word
It was a beauty of a Queenstown day: a bit of sun, a bit of breeze, and a whole lot of good golf. With medals up for grabs and plenty of cash and vouchers changing hands, the weekend energy was high and the bar chatter even higher.
Here’s hoping that mysterious yellow ball in the sky decides to stick around for Tuesday!
