Saturday Stableford – 24 January 2026

Someone told us that summer officially started on the 22nd of December. Well, we’re still waiting. We might’ve had two minutes of sunshine today — just long enough to make you think about sunscreen before the heavens opened again.

The flags were more than flapping — they were horizontal. The rain gave us the full range: a gentle mist, a solid drizzle, and then good old sideways pelting for that authentic Queenstown touch. Out on Lake Wakatipu, the white caps were in full swing, but spirits on the course stayed high (possibly fuelled by the thought of a dry clubhouse afterwards).

 Stableford Winners

Despite the conditions, scoring was impressive — clearly, some of you play better when you’re half-drowned.

1st (tie)Adam Dawson, Toby McDonald & David Grant – 41 pts each – $30
4th (tie)Geordie Gibson & Allan Slater – 39 pts each – $25
6th–12th (tie)Ron Cusick, Richard Thomas, Josh Rees, Jack Walker, John McDowell, Adrian Januszkiewicz & Russell Thoms – 37 pts each – $20
13th–17th (tie)Jeff Morrison, Simon Hayes, Alan Brown, Marti Groves & Errol Frewen – 36 pts each –$15

 Two’s Club- $15 each

It was a battle of 2 of  the par threes today:

  • Cory Clark fired his 2 on Hole 7, while

  • Corey Sinteur, Russell Thoms, Joel Popplewell, and Danny King all struck gold on Hole 11 – the Birdie Hole for the day!

That means those Hole 11 twos earned double glory — paid out for both Two’s and the Birdies Draw. Nice!

Birdies, Eagles, Net Eagles & the Infamous Jack Pot

Birdies were a copy cat of everyone who got two's on  Hole 11- $41 each for Corey Sinteur, Russell Thoms, Joel Popplewell and Danny King. The only time double dipping is allowed. No french fries involved.

It wouldn’t be a Saturday without that sneaky Jack Pot swooping in again — claiming the Net Eagles Draw on Hole 2 and stealing everyone’s thunder once more- $166 up for grabs next week.

But we did have two genuine eagles soaring across the course:

  • Lewis Ferguson picked up another Eagle on Hole 12, continuing his streak of collecting I Love Kimchi KFC vouchers like Pokémon cards.

  • Roger Hudson also earned a KFC voucher for his Eagle on Hole 4. Roger, maybe hang onto that one and take Toni out for dinner when she’s back — a classy move (and cheaper than fine dining).

 Special Prizes

  • Nearest the Pin:

    • Richard ThomasNeat Meat Voucher

    • Russell ThomsNeat Meat Voucher

Staff did a double take when they saw R. Thomas and then R. Thoms on the boards.

  • Longest Putt (#9): David GrantNeat Meat Voucher- Mitch & Kelly watched from the Pro shop window as Lewis Ferguson laid claim to this, but before he'd dotted his i's and crossed his F, David Grant in the same group stole it off of him. Sorry Lewis, that's what they call a "Hot Minute"

  • Random Card Draw: Dean Corry$50 Club Credit

 The Deer Came to Play

And for those of you who haven’t seen them yet — yes, the deer are real. The tail end of one of the three was spotted cantering down the 9th fairway, up past 17, and by the time Kelly got her phone out and zoomed in, they were almost gone.

No wonder John Deere runs with the slogan “Nothing Runs Like a Deere.”

Final Word

Tough weather, great company, and even better stories — another classic Saturday at Queenstown Golf Club. Here’s hoping summer decides to show up before winter does.
