Sunday’s NZ Open – Best Net Pairs (4BBB Net) came with a proper reminder that we’re still in Queenstown. Strong winds rolling up from Kingston, whitecaps on the lake, and the kind of gusts that make you question club selection twice. If you listened carefully, you could almost hear the big waves applauding (or heckling) as tee shots took flight.
Despite the blustery conditions, the scoring at the top was nothing short of impressive — and one family in particular seemed to have claimed the prize table as their own.
Overall Results – 4BBB Net
1st – Billy Groves & Matt Groves – Net 62 – $25
A superb combined effort in testing conditions. When others were battling the breeze, the Groves pairing were quietly racking up net birdies and posting a number that proved untouchable.
2nd – Troy Murdoch & Marti Groves – Net 69 – $20
Yes, another Groves in the mix. A strong team effort and more prize money heading in the same household direction.
3rd – Lewis Ferguson & Gavin Hastings – Net 73 – $15
A solid round in tricky conditions to round out the podium.
Special Prizes – Groves Family Edition
If the team win wasn’t enough, the Groves clan kept the momentum rolling:
-
Longest Putt (18th) – Billy Groves – $10 credit
-
Nearest the Pin (10th) – Billy Groves – $10 credit
-
Nearest the Pin (10th) – Marti Groves – $10 credit
At this point, we may need to start checking surnames before handing out vouchers.
Final Thoughts
Strong winds, big waves from Kingston, and some serious shot-making to keep things under control — Sunday had a bit of everything. Congratulations to all our prize winners, and a special nod to the Groves family, who absolutely dominated proceedings.
If this is what autumn golf looks like, we’re in for an entertaining few months ahead.
See you all back out there soon.
