The Kelvin Breeze Strikes Again
Ah, the Kelvin “Breeze” — that polite term we use for what’s really a mischievous gust doing its best to turn every high draw into a low punch shot. It danced across the lake, toyed with tee shots, and sent a few hats airborne. Yet, as always, our players took it on the chin, adjusted the caps, and soldiered on in fine form for the Best 3 of 4 Team Stableford.
Overall Results – Team Triumphs
1st – Frank Garthwaite, John "Toothy" McDowell, Aaron Hotop & Rex Duncan – 127 points
A powerhouse quartet! This dream team handled the breeze like seasoned sailors — steady, disciplined, and deadly with the putter. The chemistry was right, the scores were tight, and they sailed to the top with 127 points and well-earned bragging rights.
2nd – Karen Scott, Heather Atkinson, Jenny Browne & Sue Wilson – 121 points
Hot on their heels, and doing it for the girls, this crew put up a cracking fight. Consistency was their calling card, with solid play all around. A bit more luck with the wind, and they might’ve stolen the trophy.
3rd –Slade Thomas, Troy Murdoch, Jack Halliday & Scott MacKenzie – 119 points
Another strong showing. Some impressive teamwork and short-game wizardry had them within touching distance of the leaders.
4th – Bill Grant, David Clearwater, Dean Corry & Darren Hill – 118 points
A gritty performance in challenging conditions. These lads fought every puff of wind and came out smiling, with plenty of tales for the 19th hole.
On the Course – Highlights and Heroics
Twos Winners
Three sharpshooters tamed the pins today, each pocketing $19 for their precision:
-
Joel Popplewell – a laser-like strike that made the flag quiver.
-
Lewis Ferguson – crisp, confident, and straight as a dart.
-
Reuben Williams-Warren – smooth as silk, finding the bottom of the cup with style.
Birdies Bonanza – Hole 17
Once again, the infamous M. Jack Pot was back at it — snaring the Birdies Draw and another $130 haul. One must wonder if he’s got a secret pact with the golf gods or just a well-timed bounce. Either way, the rest of us are left muttering, “surely someone’s going to shove that jackpot off his perch soon…”
Net Eagles – Hole 11
And who else but M. Jack Pot again — cleaning up the Net Eagles Draw for another $130! It’s safe to say he’s got the golden touch.
The rest of us are watching with bated breath — perhaps next Saturday someone will finally knock the king from his throne.
Longest Putt (Hole 18)
Reuben Williams-Warren wasn’t done after his two — he drained a monster on 18 to claim the Longest Putt and a Neat Meat Voucher. A steak and a story well earned!
Nearest the Pin (Hole 11)
The Kelvin Breeze couldn’t stop these two from dialling in the accuracy:
-
Annette Fea – a smooth swing and perfect distance control, earning a Neat Meat Voucher.
-
Lewis Ferguson – his iron play was as hot as the summer sun, landing him yet another voucher and bragging rights.
Special Mentions
Liam Douglas – A Last Hurrah!
Today marked Liam Douglas’s last morning opening the Pro Shop — and fittingly, he capped it off by setting up the day and then heading out for a final round with the boys. Topped it off by scooping the $50 Random Card Draw. A class act all the way. Thanks for your effort, energy, and easy smile, Liam — we’ll miss you behind the counter, but not on the fairways!

The Lads: Tom "TJ" James, Mike "Rollie" Roulston, Liam "Nobby" Douglas and Lewis "Fergo" Ferguson. Cheers for all your hard work Liam.
Interclub Report – The Regional Showdown
It was a big day on the course as we hosted Interclub, welcoming eight teams from across the region. The greens were fast, the breeze was lively, and the competition fierce.
Queenstown took hosting honours with a cracking 353 points, edging out Wanaka who finished second on 360. Word on the street is that, in the season-long standings (with around 3000 points tallied so far), Wanaka holds the narrowest of leads — just one single point!
It’s all shaping up for a thrilling season finale. We’ll be watching closely to see if Queenstown can flip the leaderboard and bring it home.
Wrapping Up
Between the breeze, the banter, and the battles on the fairway, it was another unforgettable Saturday at Queenstown Golf Club. A massive thank-you to all who played, supported, and laughed their way through the day.
Here’s to next week — may the wind be kind, the greens be true, and someone finally dethrone that Jackpot!
