Sunday’s American Stableford competition delivered a fantastic mix of international flavour, competitive golf and varying levels of mathematical confidence.
While some members embraced the American Stableford format and carefully worked through the points system hole by hole, others wisely chose a simpler strategy — head out, hit the ball, hand the card in and let DotGolf perform the wizardry later.
The atmosphere around the club was brilliant, with a wonderful variety of nationalities represented throughout the field. In the end though, the Welsh came out on top with Josh Rees flying the dragon proudly all the way to victory, while one of our Kiwis, Julianne Bowman, pushed him all the way in a very close second-place finish.
18 Hole American Stableford Results
1st – Josh Rees – 59 pts – $30
2nd – Julianne Bowman – 57 pts – $25
3rd – Matt Groves – 56 pts – $20
4th – Craig Scholes – 54 pts – $15
5th – Jack Walker – 52 pts – $10
The special prizes produced their own share of drama. Despite several close calls, nobody managed to grab a Two this week. Birdies, however, were plentiful enough to trigger a draw on Hole 12, with Josh Rees and Lewis Ferguson sharing the spoils. Net Eagles were drawn on Hole 10, where Tilly Grant swooped in to claim the prize money.

Meanwhile, the 9 Hole American Stableford competition proved just as competitive in a shorter burst format. Hamish Richardson led the way with an excellent 31 points, narrowly ahead of Marti Groves on 30 points.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and embraced the new format. Whether you fully understood the scoring system or simply trusted the computer to eventually make sense of it all, the day produced plenty of laughs, great golf and a brilliant club atmosphere.
We look forward to seeing everyone back out there next week for more winter golf adventures!
