Tuesday morning brought the first official frost delay of the winter season, with Jack Frost making his presence felt and forcing a 30-minute postponement before play could begin. Thankfully, the delay did little to deter the 25 hardy souls who had turned up ready for battle, and once the greens had thawed sufficiently, the competition was underway.
In fact, the extra half-hour may have done wonders, because the scoring was red hot.
The Modified Stableford format, once understood, proved a hit, rewarding aggressive play and producing some impressive totals. At the top of the leaderboard, Tyree Birch and Judy Sim couldn't be separated on 53 points, with Tyree edging ahead on countback to claim the winner's cheque. Marie Wilkinson was only a point further back on 52, while Tilly Grant and Margaret Carlsson also topped the half-century mark with 51 points.
Modified Stableford Results

3rd – Marie Wilkinson – 52 pts – $16
4th – Tilly Grant – 51 pts – $12

Special Prizes
Nearest to the Pin Hole 7 – Tyree Birch – $20 Life Pharmacy Wilkinson's Voucher
The shot of the day belonged to Tyree Birch on the par-three 7th. Tyree's laser-guided effort found its way closest to the flag to claim the Nearest to the Pin prize and the $20 Life Pharmacy Wilkinson's Voucher. It's always nice when the winner's circle and the special prize circle overlap.
Longest Putt Hole 9 – Tilly Grant – $25 Neat Meat Voucher
As seems to be tradition, the Longest Putt competition wasn't settled until the very last hole. Tilly Grant saved her best for last, holing the winning putt on the 9th green to secure the $25 Neat Meat Voucher. Having already enjoyed another fine round, there could hardly have been a sweeter way to finish the day than watching a lengthy putt disappear into the cup.
Congratulations to all our winners and to everyone who braved the chilly start. Twenty-five players turning up despite a frost delay is a great reflection of the enthusiasm around our winter competitions. One suspects that if we delayed play because of sunshine, there'd be riots!
