After a balmy morning by July standards, Thursday's 9 Hole Stableford turned into something of a race against the weather. With rain looming on the horizon, players kept one eye on their golf ball and the other on the darkening skies. Thankfully, most of the field managed to complete their rounds before the wet stuff arrived, although the wind certainly made sure nobody had an easy day of it. The blustery conditions made every shot a challenge, but a handful of golfers still managed to post some impressive scores.

Leading the way was Corey Sinteur, whose excellent 21 Stableford points proved enough to take top honours. Jeffrey Smith and Steve McDiarmid both battled the breeze superbly to finish tied for second on 19 points, while Neil Watson, Cheli Larsen, Kris Brewin and Marie Wilkinson all shared fourth place with solid rounds of 18 points.

Considering the strength of the wind for much of the afternoon, there were plenty of quality rounds on display. The gusts kept everyone honest, turning straightforward approach shots into educated guesses and making club selection something of a lottery.

It was another enjoyable Thursday competition, and while the rain eventually made an appearance, it was kind enough to wait until most players had safely made their way back to the clubhouse. Sometimes, that's about as much cooperation as we can ask from the Queenstown weather!
