QUEENSTOWN GOLF CLUB – CANADA DAY CELEBRATION
Tuesday 1 July 2025 | Canadian Foursomes & Red Hole Stableford

Today wasn’t just a themed competition – it was a celebration. Not only did we embrace the red and white with flair, but we also had the bittersweet honour of saying farewell (for now) to our very own Canadian club hero.

Quinton Thomson, our Head Pro and Golf Operations Manager, announced last night that he’s heading off into the big wide golfing world to take his talents beyond Queenstown. With Canada Day  the timing couldn’t have been more fitting. We wish Quinton all the very best – although we hope he'll be in for  the odd social round with us and a Purple Pals.

18-HOLE LADIES – CANADIAN FOURSOMES RESULTS

Our ladies didn’t just turn up – they turned out in full Canadian spirit. Red polos, white trousers, and one or two maple leaf flags proudly displayed. The Canadian Foursomes format delivered its usual challenge, but the results were top-tier.

Top Teams:

1st – Cheli Larsen & Sharron Payne – Net 74
2nd – Nola Pratt & Nan Mavor – Net 75
3rd – Jo Denton & Kerry Conner – Net 76
4th – Ngaire Hayes & Annie Han – Net 76
5th – Julie Grant & Sally Hicks-Beach – Net 77
6th – Heather Atkinson & Joan Blomfield – Net 78

Great to see so many competitive scores in a format that’s as tricky as it is entertaining.

CANADA DAY COURSE STYLE

Here’s a glimpse of the fun and fashion from the day:

Quinton’ and his team – not a dry eye in the ProShop(we heard that was after they had their chicken wings for lunch)

9-HOLE LADIES – RED HOLE STABLEFORD

Our 9-holers played their own celebration with a Red Hole Stableford – only the red-numbered holes were in play. There were some clever tactics (and probably a few accidental birdies too).

Top Scorers:

  • Francie McDowell – 19 points and first place

  • Robynne Stevens – 17 points

  • Abbe MoffattTricia Lund-Jackson, and Melanie Henderson – all close behind on 15 points

But the biggest cheer? When Francie McDowell finally got the longest putt on the final green. It was less “straight line” and more “ping pong”, but it dropped in the cup eventually and sealed the deal. Some say it’s still bouncing around in her bag.

THANK YOU, QUINTON

On behalf of every member, guest, and staffer – thank you, Quinton. You’ve been a brilliant ambassador for the club, a steady presence for players of all levels, and someone we’ve all trusted with our swings (and our jokes). Best of luck out there – we know you’ll do Canada (and Queenstown) proud.

That’s the Canada Day round-up. The vibes were high, the outfits on point, and the golf (mostly) respectable. We’ll see you all next week, red and white gear optional.
