Here’s your latest Queenstown Golf Club Newsletter for Thursday 10 July – Z Energy Mixed Stableford, served with sunshine, splashdowns, and a stableford scoreboard full of fireworks.

Thursday’s Thrill – High Scores, Bare Feet & A Bit of Brilliance

With a glimpse of the winter sun lighting up the course, it was another brilliant day for stableford scoring – and boy, did some of you deliver! If you didn’t bring your A-game, chances are you were left watching someone else's name crawl up the leaderboard.

Top of the Table – Steady Swings & Big Rewards

  • Andrew Gunn led the charge with a whopping 44 points, banking $40 and claiming a Net Eagle prize for good measure.

  • Simon Hayes and Mike Clement both finished on 43 points, swinging smooth and picking up prizes along the way.

  • Greg Kerr followed with a strong 42, and several others joined the 40s club – proving you had to be dialled in just to stay in the money!

Stableford purists, rejoice – the formula still works, especially when your driver listens.

Kerry Conner – Making a Splash on 15

Now for the shot of the day (and possibly the year): Kerry Conner, faced with the watery challenge on Hole 15, calmly removed her shoes, peeled off her socks, waded in like a local trout fisher… and got up and down for par.

Let’s just say:

"Jean van de Velde eat your heart out – Kerry kept her cool, her swing, and most of her dignity. The only thing wetter than her feet was her scorecard – soaked in style."

She finished with 38 points and a round that people will be retelling in the 19th for years.

Twos, Birdies, and Big Bombs

Three tidy twos were cashed in today:

  • Michael Wong, David Grant, and Kim Wilkinson all dropped one in on a par 3 and walked off $23 richer.

Birdies were flying too:

  • Matt Evans and Mike Searle claimed the Birdie Draw, while Andrew Gunn, Mike Clement, Mike Gain, and Stephen Robertson all bagged Net Eagles to boost their stashes.

Pin Seekers & Putt Droppers

Special shoutouts to our straight shooters and long rollers:

  • Nearest the Pin:

    • Annie Han (W) and Robert Freer (M) – they’ll be checking the flagsticks for magnets.

  • Longest Putt:

    • Jo Denton rolled one in that could’ve crossed county lines – $10 credit well earned.

Coming Soon – “The Open Championship” Sweepstake!

Keep your eyes peeled this weekend as our Open Championship Sweepstake gets underway!
Tickets available from Saturday – so whether you’re backing Rory, Rahm, or an obscure amateur with a questionable putting grip, you’ll want in.

It’s the one week of the year where watching golf in your dressing gown while eating chips somehow feels productive.

Final Word

Another fantastic Thursday – full of drama, delight, and the occasional soggy sock. Whether you were in the prizes or just here for the laughs, thanks for making it another top day at Queenstown Golf Club.

Until next time – keep swinging, keep smiling, and maybe pack a towel (just in case).

Cheers,
Your Queenstown Golf Shop Team – home of good gear, great banter, and emergency dry socks.
