Here’s your Queenstown Golf Club Newsletter for Saturday 12th July – Random Pairs Edition, packed with great golf, synchronised wardrobes, and the curious case of “Jackpot” striking again.
Queenstown Golf Club – Random Pairs Roundup
It was the perfect winter pairing day – random teams, unexpected friendships, and coordinated outfits (accidentally or otherwise). The fairways were full of good shots, good laughs, and a few “how did we end up paired together?” moments.
Men’s Random Pairs – Power Pairings & Twos Galore
-
Bill Grant + Nigel Soper took out top spot with a very tidy 75 points – combining birdies and consistency like they’ve done this before.
-
Dylan Street + Simon Boland followed just behind on 74, both putting in strong individual performances.
-
Mike Clement + Darren Hill locked in 72 points – a textbook example of how to keep the scorecard tidy.
Also in the mix:
-
Murray Carter + David Grant, Aaron Hotop + Matt Evans, Kim Wilkinson + Mystery Man, and Frank Garthwaite + Quinton Thompson all scored 70 points and made the prizes feel like a crowded leaderboard at Royal Portrush.

The Return of Jackpot – Still Undefeated
Once again, Jackpot struck gold:
We're starting to wonder if Jackpot’s got magnets in their scorecard or just carries around a horseshoe. Either way – luck, skill, or sorcery, we’re impressed.
Ladies Random Pairs – Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
-
Tilly Grant + Judith Mitchell led the field with a mighty 76 points, playing like seasoned tour partners.
-
Lisa Murphy + Kayleigh Woodings followed closely with 73, a fabulous pairing that clearly clicked from tee to green.
-
A tie at 69 points for both Anne Paton + Tyree Birch and Julie Grant + Sue Wilson – with no blood spilled and both teams pocketing a win.

Fashion Spotlight: Steve & Michael’s Match-Up
Now, about that wardrobe situation…
Word got around quickly that Steve Ridley and Michael Wong turned up in near-identical kit.
“Coincidence? Maybe. A case of Pennants brotherhood chic? Almost certainly. If the golf didn’t match, at least the wardrobes did.”
The judges gave it a 9/10 for coordination and a strong recommendation for a future catalogue shoot.
