Queenstown Golf Club – Hidden Holes Hijinks
Sunday 13th July 2025
There’s nothing quite like a Hidden Holes Stableford to keep golfers on their toes – and questioning why their best three holes weren’t counted. But despite the randomised scoring roulette, we had some stand-out play, a heart-stopping near ace, and some tight finishes. Let’s dive into the highlights!

Bill Grant’s Big Day (and Big Almost)
Not only did Bill Grant take out 1st place with a sneaky good 21 points, but he also came within millimetres of a hole-in-one on the par-3 11th. The ball kissed the edge of the cup and stopped as if to say, “Not today, Bill… not today.”
“That was closer than my last bacon roll to being overcooked,” Bill was heard muttering with a grin.
For his efforts, he also grabbed Nearest the Pin on 11 and a cool $10 credit. Not bad for one hole!

The Grant Family Sweep – Tilly Gets It Done Too!
It wasn’t just Bill stealing the spotlight. Tilly Grant matched her husband’s magic by taking out Nearest the Pin for the Ladies on Hole 11. Rumour has it they’re now Queenstown's most dangerous duo on that hole – and possibly the only pair to need separate trophy cabinets for one flagstick.

Longest Putt – Steven Ridley Rolls It In
Steven Ridley had a strong showing all round – finishing 3rd overall and nailing the Longest Putt on the 9th for an extra $10 credit. It was a silky roller that had eyes from the moment it left the blade. Word is, he’s still smiling.

Top 5 Finishers – Hidden But Not Forgotten
  1.  Bill Grant – 21 pts ($40)
  2.  Ron Cusick – 21 pts ($35)
  3. Steven Ridley – 20 pts ($30)
  4. Olle Polson – 20 pts ($30)
  5. Bill Shaw – 19 pts ($25)
Also finishing on 19 points: Euan WilsonDuncan Fea, and Richard Thomas – all collecting a tidy payday for their efforts.
Special shoutout to Jeri Elliot, the top lady on the day with 18 points, who rounded out the prize list and brought some much-needed flair to the leaderboard.

Queenstown Presidents Victorious!
A massive congratulations to our Queenstown Presidents Team, who took on the might of Cromwell Golf Club and came out on top in a tight tussle – 3.5 to 2.5.
Word is, the matches were hard-fought, the putts intense, and the banter on par with the best. Great effort to the squad – you’ve done the club proud! It’s always a good day when you can take the win… and still be mates over a pint afterwards.
Final Word
A great Sunday comp with some red-hot golf, near-misses for history, and family bragging rights secured. Thanks to everyone who joined – we’ll see you next round for more golf, more laughs, and maybe… just maybe… that elusive hole-in-one.
Cheers,
Your Queenstown Golf Shop Team – your go-to crew for gear, gossip, and near-glory greatness.
