Round 2 – Club Champs Qualifying

The men were back on the Blue Tees for Round 2 of Club Champs qualifying, and as always, there was the full emotional rollercoaster on display. Birdies followed by doubles, heroic recoveries followed by “why did I try that?” moments — it had it all.

The calculators have been busy, the numbers are locked in, and our esteemed Men’s Club Captain James Sowerby will be sending out the official draws and posting them to the website shortly. Keep an eye out — the real fun is about to begin.

Twos – Rare as Hen’s Teeth

For a medal day, there was a real scarcity of twos — just two of them all day, and remarkably hole 11 didn’t cough up a single one.

  • Adam Dawson – Two on 14 – $32

  • Tony Moran – Two on 17 – $32

That was it. Slim pickings!

Birdies, Net Eagles & Big Hits

The Birdies draw was on Hole 12, and it was the big hitters stepping up:

  • Lewis Ferguson

  • Conor O’Boyle

  • Danny King

All three split the pot at $31 each.

Danny wasn’t finished there — he also bagged himself an eagle on 18.
Chook chook chook indeed.

The Net Eagle hole was 15, and Jack Walker took the lot on his own — pocketing $65. Nicely done, Jack.

 Valentine’s Blind Date Stableford

(For the Ladies and any gents not feeling the love from the Blue Tees)

While the medal players were grinding away, others got into the Valentine’s spirit with a Blind Date Stableford — though judging by some of the pairings, it wasn’t entirely blind!

And clearly the pre-round chat with a certain Australian television host (who will be promoting our course on 1 March) gave Kayleigh Woodings and Julie Grant a serious confidence boost — they carried that energy straight onto the course.

 Final Word

It was a classic Saturday at Queenstown Golf Club — high scores, low scores, lucky bounces, unlucky lip-outs, and just enough drama to keep the clubhouse stories flowing.

Club Champs heats up from here, the Valentine’s vibes were strong, and somewhere out there Danny King is still clucking about that eagle.

See you next weekend — bring your A-game… and maybe a bit of luck.
