The first club day of July arrived in true Central Otago fashion, with another crisp frost greeting everyone first thing in the morning. Fortunately, after a chilly start, the frost gave way to another absolutely stunning winter's day, rewarding those who wrapped up warm and ventured out onto the course.
And one golfer who continues to thrive in these conditions is Sue Gain.
Fresh off another string of impressive performances, Sue's hot streak showed no signs of cooling despite the frosty morning. She produced a blistering 25 points, taking top honours and proving that while the greens may have been frozen early on, her golf game most certainly wasn't. It's becoming increasingly difficult to decide whether Sue is simply in great form… or whether she's secretly found a way to play summer golf in the middle of winter!
Ben Farrell wasn't far behind with an excellent 24 points, while Simon Hayes rounded out the podium with a strong 23-point effort. Behind them, another tightly packed leaderboard showed once again just how competitive our winter 9-hole competitions have become.

Another fantastic turnout, another beautiful winter's day and another reminder that some of the best golf of the year is played when there's a little frost on the ground before breakfast.
Thanks to everyone who came along and made the first club day of July another enjoyable one. Now we just need the weather gods to show us a little kindness on Saturday. The forecast has been making a few threatening noises, but we all know what Queenstown is like! Here's hoping it holds off long enough for another great day of golf - we look forward to seeing everyone out there!
Please also enjoy two of my favourite action shots to date below. A big thank you to Julie for her fantastic camera work as always!
