Thursday's 9 Hole Stableford proved that winter golf isn't for the faint-hearted. A biting breeze and chilly temperatures made scoring anything but easy, with players needing every layer they owned just to keep the feeling in their fingers. Despite the brisk conditions, the competition was very close.

In one of the tightest leaderboards we've seen this winter, there were just two stableford points separating 1st place from 13th! Every putt, every chip and every point mattered, and a single good hole was often the difference between taking home a prize and heading home empty-handed.

Emerging from the pack was Holmes Byars, whose 19-point round was enough to claim victory on countback. Holmes has put in plenty of hours of voluntary work helping around the course, particularly over recent months, so it was great to see him rewarded with a well-deserved win. Sometimes the golfing gods have a way of paying back those who help keep our course looking its best!

Sue Gain's remarkable run of form continued with another 19-point round to finish second, while Ron Cusick and Rex Duncan also posted 19 points to round out the tie. With so many players bunched together, it really was a game of fine margins.

It was also great to see young Lennon Clay out for a round and swinging for the fences. Attached are a couple of images of his very tidy swing, along with two of our smiley ladies!

Congratulations to Holmes and all of our prize winners. While the cold weather and brisk breeze certainly made conditions challenging, the incredibly tight leaderboard showed that everyone was battling through the same test. Winter golf might be a little tougher on the hands, but it certainly knows how to produce a thrilling finish!
