With the Commonwealth Games providing plenty of inspiration, Sunday's golf had an international flavour of its own as members took on our International (Commonwealth) Stableford format. Like the real Games, there were cheers, celebrations and perhaps a few competitors left wondering exactly how the scoring worked... but that's all part of the fun!
In true Commonwealth fashion, it wasn't one nation dominating the medals—it was a wonderfully mixed podium, proving that golf really is the great international language.
Leading the charge was Matt Groves, who claimed the gold medal (on c/b) with an outstanding 7 International Stableford points. Sharing the podium with him were two of our ladies, Barbara Fraser taking silver (on c/b) and Julianne Bowman collecting bronze, both also finishing on seven points but separated on countback. Marie Wilkinson narrowly missed a podium finish, taking fourth with three points.

The bonus prizes were also spread around the Commonwealth village. Michael Taylor collected the Birdies Draw, while Evan Merritt pocketed the Net Eagles Draw, proving that sometimes you don't need a medal to leave with a smile on your face.

The 9-hole competition had its own podium ceremony, with Liz Jerram flying the flag brilliantly to claim gold with 6 International Stableford points. Paul Inger earned silver on four points, while James Ward completed the medal ceremony with bronze after finishing on three points.

Congratulations to all of our medalists and prize winners. The Commonwealth Games might celebrate friendly rivalry between nations, but Sunday's competition reminded us that Queenstown Golf Club does it just as well. Whether you stood on the top step of the podium or simply enjoyed an afternoon of golf with good company, everyone contributed to another fantastic club day. Now the only question left is... what format will be hosting the next "major championship"?
