Raffle Riches – The Pirates Pillage the Prize Chest
Before we get stuck into who was swinging like Seve, let’s raise a tankard to our Raffle Prize Winners – led by our very own Pirates of the Peninsula:
-
Melanie Henderson – stormed the ship and sailed off with a Blue Tees Rangefinder. No more guessing – just zapping!
-
John Stephens – swiped a Callaway Wedge. Expect greenside mischief.
-
Brad Stewart – fittingly won a Bottle of Rum. Now that’s what we call swing oil.
-
John Kennedy – took home a Titleist Umbrella. Now officially prepared for rain delays.
-
Alex Charlick – took home a Titleist StaDry Hat. Stylish, smart, and ready for anything the forecast throws at him.
-
John “Boggy” McDowell – scored a mighty Queenstown Golf Club logo caddy towel. Perfect for polishing clubs, wiping brows, or waving surrender after a three-putt.
Eagles Fly High – National Raffle Glory
Not content with pillaging locally, Queenstown’s finest took to the national stage in the Eagles Golfing Society Raffle, where 8 of the 32 prizes came to Otago – and three landed right here in our nest:
-
Darren Hill – banked a tidy $2,000. Fore-cast: new clubs, paid subs, and probably a fancy lunch.
-
Peter Sim – chalked up $500, likely already halfway to a driver upgrade.
-
Peter Adam – swooped in for a $100 prize – that’s a few rounds at the 19th sorted.
Birdies & Net Eagles – Plenty of Feathers Flying
-
It was a flutter of feathers out there, but no surprise again, Hole 12 was the hotspot for the Mystery Man? That’s right – Birdies were secured from the Jackpot on the notorious par 5.
-
Net Eagles made an appearance too, with Brent Carlsson and Sky Jeong both cashing in on Hole 17 – proof that good things come to those who go big.
The Side Hustles
-
David Harding, Greg Carter, Sky Jeong, Matt Evans, Steve Ridley and Corey Sinteur all cashed in on twos. Smooth rolls, gents.
-
Darren Hill nabbed Longest Putt – that’s right, he’s collecting prizes like they’re Pokéballs.
-
David Harding and James Sowerby hit it close to claim Nearest the Pin honours. Whether it was skill, swagger, or sheer luck – we won’t ask. But the vouchers are real, and so are the bragging rights.
-
Quinton Thompson took home the best gross – hero work.
-
Frank Garthwaite pulled the Random Card Draw – luck o’ the Irish?
Blue Tee Medal – And the Tankard Goes To...
Division 1
-
Quinton Thompson played tidy golf with a 68 net. Precision, poise, and a twinkle in the eye.
-
David Harding and Ethan Lunn chased hard on 70, with Sky Jeong just behind on 71 and a birdie too!
Division 2
-
Darren Hill – already cashed up from the raffle, and now he adds a 67 to his ledger. Weekend of the year?
-
James Bortoli (70), and the consistent crew of Neil Watson, Ron Cusick, and John M McDowell (71) filled out a strong division.
Division 3
-
Brendan Peet took top spot with a 72, holding off on countback to Jesse McKenna (also 72), and Simon Hayes (73).
-
Honourable nods to Geoff McDonald and Andrew Gunn on 74.
Step aside Quinton, the real swashbuckler this week was Darren Hill, who didn’t just win the raffle – he claimed Division 2’s Net Medal and the Tankard, then casually drained the Longest Putt too. The man’s got more range than a Blue Tees device.
Ladies Medal & Putting Showdown Incoming
Don’t worry, ladies – your time to shine is nearly here. The Medal and Putting Round 2 will be settled this Tuesday, and let’s just say, the putters are being polished. Expect tight scorecards and nervy four-footers. The glory awaits!
Parting Thought
“Golf is a game where the slowest people in the world are in front of you, and the fastest are behind.”
— And yet somehow, Darren Hill beat them all to the bank.
Until next time, keep it straight, keep it dry, and keep your raffle tickets handy – you never know when a bottle of rum might be on the line.
Cheers,
Your Queenstown Golf Shop Team
