Queenstown Golf Club Newsletter – Z Energy Mixed Stableford Competition – Thursday, 2 October 2025

Wild Weather, Hot Scores!

On a day when the skies couldn’t quite decide whether it was spring or still stuck in winter, our golfers braved the elements and were rewarded with a feast of great scores and even better banter.

Overall Champions

In a closely contested field, Jo Denton emerged victorious, showing everyone how it’s done with a superb 43 points to claim first place and a tidy $35. Not far behind, a three-way tie on 39 points saw Grant Hardy, Ken Kelly, and Rodney Clay all sharing the spoils in second place, each walking away with $25.

Here’s how the prize sheet stacked up:

Place Player Points Prize
1st Jo Denton 43 $35.00
2nd Grant Hardy 39 $25.00
2nd Ken Kelly 39 $25.00
2nd Rodney Clay 39 $25.00
5th Bruce Cunningham 38 $20.00

Talk about sharing the spoils – eight players split the pot on this one!

Birdies & Net Eagles – Ben Farrell Strikes Twice!

Ben Farrell had himself a field day, claiming:

  •  Birdie Draw on Hole 12 – $62

  •  Net Eagle Draw on Hole 4 – another $62!

Gold-strike form from Ben – he might want to keep that scorecard in a frame!

Closest and Longest

  • Nearest the Pin (Hole 17): Frank Garthwaite – A pin-seeker special that nailed him $10

  • Longest Putt (Hole 9): Kelly MacKenzie – Rumour has it she sunk it from somewhere between the 9th green and Kingston. That’s $10 in the bank and one epic tale to tell.

Final Word

Another day of mixed conditions and even more mixed fortunes – the leaderboard saw its fair share of surprises, comebacks, and big-money hauls. Congratulations to all our winners, and to everyone who braved the day to be part of it.

Until next time – keep it straight, keep it dry (if you can), and may the wind be ever at your back!
