Queenstown Golf Club – Z Energy Mixed Stableford Results
Thursday, 9 October 2025
If you thought today’s golf was a game of skill, luck, and nerves of steel — you’d be right. Throw in a blustery crosswind that could blow your hat into the lake, and we had all the makings of a classic Queenstown challenge. Despite the swirling gusts, some exceptional golf was played, and our competitors turned the tough conditions into great stories and even better scores.
Overall Winners
1st – Sue Cunningham (41 points)
Sue’s put together a clinic out there today, and with a masterclass in steady play despite the wind doing its best to push every ball into the next fairway. Her 41 points were well-earned and stood head and shoulders above the rest. A well-deserved victory and $40 richer for her efforts!
Tied 2nd – Rob Taylor, Robert Freer & Russell Thoms (39 points)
Tidy performances that were right on the leaders’ heels. I'm sure they will all be rueing one or two missed putts, but a strong tie on 39 points to take second.
Tied 5th – Ron Cusick & Joe Denton (38 points)
Their local knowledge shone through today. When everyone else was second-guessing the gusts, Ron & Joe were threading drives like they had a personal weather forecast.
It was tight all the way down the leaderboard. Murray Carter (37), Nigel Soper (37) Cheli Larsen (37) all had terrific rounds that could’ve gone their way on another day.
Special Prizes
-
Twos Winners: Brent Carlsson, Sue Cunningham, Rex Duncan, Jae Kim, and Dan Clearwater each carded twos. Proving that sometimes fortune really does favour the bold.
-
Birdie Draw on Hole 5: Congratulations to Cheli Larsen, who flew solo with the only birdie on the 5th. A tidy $66 well earned!
-
Net Eagles Draw on Hole 14: Russell Thoms and Nigel Soper shared the honours (and the spoils) with some fine approach play, and sharing the pot.
-
Longest Putt (Hole 7): Sue Gain showed nerves of steel and touch like velvet to drop the longest putt of the day, and into her account goes a $10 credit.
-
Nearest The Pin (Hole 11): A double delight. Dan Clearwater and Sue Cunningham both dialled in for $10 credits each.
Final Word
Between the wind gusts, the tricky greens, today’s field battled it out in true Queenstown style. Congratulations to all who braved the breeze — and to those whose golf balls are still somewhere in flight, we salute your ambition!
Until next time, may your drives be long and your putts be true.
