Queenstown Golf Club – Sunday Mixed Stableford Results
Sunday, 12 October 2025
If you thought Saturday’s wind was tough, Sunday laughed and said, “Hold my beer.” The blustery conditions returned with gusto, swirling through the fairways like they owned the place. Caps flew, balls danced in mid-air, and more than a few players learned just how far sideways a perfectly struck shot can travel in a Queenstown gale. But despite the chaos, some cracking golf was played — and a few brave souls even made it look easy.

Overall Winners
1st – John Bannerman (38 points)
John showed everyone how it’s done. Steady, composed, and with the patience of a saint, he let the wind do its worst and still came out on top. His short game was the difference today — tidy up-and-downs and rock-solid putting under pressure. A well-deserved victory and $30 in the pocket.
2nd – Tilly Grant (37 points)
Tilly’s been in fine form lately, and she continued her hot streak today. She played smart, stayed low, and somehow kept her drives laser-straight into the teeth of the wind. It’s the kind of round that makes the rest of us consider taking up indoor sports.
3rd – Karen Scott (36 points)
Karen battled beautifully, never letting the weather (or the odd mischievous gust) get to her. A few silky chips and calm putts saw her sneak into third spot — proof that a smooth tempo always wins out when things get wild.
4th – Jo Denton (36 points)
Jo matched Karen on points and nearly stole the show. Her back nine was as gritty as it gets, holding it together when most were hanging on for dear life. You’d think she was playing in calm conditions the way she handled the gusts.
5th – David Grant (35 points)
David played a confident round, peppering the fairways and showing off that trademark rhythm. A couple of lip-outs might have cost him a shot or two, but 35 points in this breeze? That’s quality golf.
6th – Sam Lee (34 points)
Sam may have a single-digit handicap, but even the pros would’ve struggled with today’s conditions. Despite that, he still managed 34 points and looked sharp doing it — a classy effort that included a two and a near-pin win for good measure.
The Rest of the Field
From Henry Brain (34) and the rest of the crew, it was a day where grit mattered as much as grace. Many rounds were a tale of “what could’ve been,” but the camaraderie on course and in the clubhouse more than made up for the wind-induced frustration.
Twos Winners
Congratulations to Jaydee Oh and Sam Lee, who both knocked in tidy twos — no mean feat when the flag was practically doing cartwheels. That’s $12 apiece and bragging rights earned fair and square.
Special Prizes
-
Longest Putt (Hole 18): James Berryman found the cup from downtown to claim $10 in credit. Rumour has it, the putt started in another postcode and still dropped dead-centre — magic stuff!
-
Nearest The Pin (Hole 11): Sam Lee and Tilly Grant both hit absolute darts into the wind, earning $10 credits each and proving precision isn’t impossible, even when the flagstick’s bending sideways.
Mama Brown & The Ducklings Update
For those following the Queenstown Golf Club Wildlife Series — Mama Brown’s ducklings are growing fast! The little fluffballs are becoming confident paddlers, though eagle-eyed members may have noticed she’s down to eight. Nature’s tough, especially around the bay, but Mama Brown’s still keeping a watchful eye (and a sharp quack) on her brood.

Final Word
It was another blustery beauty at Kelvin Heights — wind-whipped hair, heroic recoveries, and laughter all around. The lake shimmered, the ducks waddled, and the players gritted their teeth through another Queenstown gale. Hats off to everyone who came out to play — and if your ball’s still airborne somewhere over Frankton, don’t worry… you weren’t the only one!
