Queenstown Golf Club - Z Energy Mixed Stableford Results
Four Seasons, One Scorecard
You could’ve sworn the morning started in spring, turned to autumn by the back nine, flirted with winter on the 14th, and wrapped up in a glorious summer sunset. Queenstown delivered its full climate sampler today — and our players took it all in stride (and in rain jackets). Despite the blustery turns, the greens rolled true, and a few brave souls turned up the heat with some scorching Stableford scores.
Overall Stableford Champions
1st – Bill Grant (42 points)
Bill played like a man inspired, perhaps the thought of his winning display on the course earned him more than just the top spot. He’s not only taking home $40 in pro shop glory but also tickets to the local art show, fitting recognition for his “masterpiece” round.
2nd – Ernie Smith (41 points)
A close second and proof that experience counts! Ernie’s steady rhythm and smooth putting stroke kept him in contention all day.
3rd – John Stephens (39 points)
John was hot on the heels, firing steady shots all round and cashing in on a Two and Birdie Draw for good measure (more on that below).
4th – Alson Foo (38 points)
Alson found his groove with a run of tidy pars, and even snagged a Net Eagle along the way. Clearly, the Foo factor was in full swing.
5th – Mike Rivers (38 points)
Consistency, style, and swagger. Mike matched Alson’s points, and also bagged himself a Two, Birdie Draw, and a Nearest the Pin — talk about a full house.
The rest of the top flight, from Peter Sim through to Lindsay Williams kept things tight, with a traffic jam of 35s rounding out the leaderboard. A great showing all round in tricky conditions.
Special Mentions
Twos Winners
The precision club was small but mighty today, both Mike Rivers and John Stephens each pocketed $30 for their efforts.
Birdie Draw on Hole 11
Again, lightning strikes twice, both Mike Rivers and John Stephens showed the field how it’s done on the 11th, walking away with $30 apiece for their flying finishes.
Net Eagles on Hole 14
The 14th played friendly to a few today!
Congrats to Bill Davidson, Russell Moore, Graham Alsweiler, Kumar Muniapan, and Alson Foo for taming the beast and turning in net eagles. Each earning a tidy $12 reward.
Longest Putt on Hole 18
Adam Patchett rolled in a beauty to finish strong and takes home a $10 account credit. That’s how you close out a round!
Nearest the Pins on Hole 11
A couple of laser-guided shots worth celebrating:
-
Mike Rivers (again!) – he could probably read the green from the tee.
-
Liz Jerram – cool, calm, and dialled in, earning herself a $10 account credit.
Bonus Honour – Bill Grant’s “Artful Round”
Bill’s smooth swing and steely focus not only secured him victory but also tickets to the local art show for his “winning display” on the course. We reckon the only thing more impressive than his fairway artistry might be his brushwork, should he decide to take up painting.
Wrapping It Up
As the last of the day’s light disappeared over the Remarkables, the clubhouse buzzed with stories of missed birdies, miraculous recoveries, and putts that defied physics. All in all, a cracking day of golf and a reminder that in Queenstown, you don’t just play against the field, you play against the elements.
Until next week — keep your umbrella handy and your putts rolling true.
