The Kelvin “Breeze” – or Should We Say “Blast”?
You could almost hear the weather laughing this morning — the Kelvin “Breeze” turned into something more like a Kelvin Howler by mid-morning, turning high draws into helicopter shots and putts into adventures. Yet somehow, amidst the wind-whipped chaos, some brave souls managed to post red-hot scores!

Overall Results – Single Par Heroes
1st – Neil Watson (+5)
A masterclass in steady golf! Neil tamed the elements with composure and control. His round was clinical, his putting silky smooth, and his +5 total earned him not just $35 but a spot in the Kelvin Wind Survivors Hall of Fame.
2nd – Rex Duncan (+4)
Rex rode the gusts like a pro sailor. He even added a two for good measure and looked to be in the running right until the final hole. Consistency and calm hands were the key to his excellent +4 finish.
3rd – Holmes Byars (+3)
Holmes turned the challenge into opportunity. Not only did he secure third place, but he also snagged the Longest Putt on 18, proving that distance control is all about feel — and maybe a touch of luck when the wind’s doing pirouettes.
4th – Julie Grant (+2)
Julie led the charge for the ladies and looked as solid as ever. A steady +2 on a day when par felt like birdie says it all. Perhaps her good form was boosted by some international company (more on that shortly).
5th – Michael Lynn (+2)
Rounding out the top five, Michael quietly went about his business, managing the breeze beautifully and earning himself a tidy $20 in the process.
Twos Club – Precision in the Wind
Seven sharpshooters managed to find the bottom of the cup in style despite the swirling gusts:
-
Conor O’Boyle
-
Rex Duncan
-
Ian Browne
-
Toni Sinclair
-
Jeffery Smith
-
Evan Merritt
-
Steve Henderson
Each pockets $13 for their efforts — though we reckon bragging rights are worth more than that!
Birdies Bonanza – Hole 14 (the “Doozy”)
Hole 14 lived up to its reputation, playing like a beast today. Only Steve Henderson managed to conquer it — earning the Birdies Draw and a whopping $252! That’s enough for a celebratory dinner and a new wedge. The rest of us can only dream.
Net Eagles – Hole 5
And yes, you guessed it — Jack Pot has done it again! He swooped in to claim the Net Eagles Draw for another $252.
Someone, please, shove that Jackpot off his perch! We wait with bated breath to see what next Saturday brings — hopefully, that rather large pot will finally go to a worthy (and patient) member.
Longest Putt – Hole 18
A big round of applause for Holmes Byars, who rolled in a beauty on the final green to claim the Longest Putt and a Neat Meat Voucher. That’s one way to finish strong — steak night sorted!

Aussie Guests in Town
A warm Queenstown welcome to Julie and David Grant’s friends from Australia, including Ian “Stinger” Purssey from Brisbane. Ian’s new to the game, playing off 40, but he turned heads today — carding 113 for 35 points!
His round was a wild ride — birdie on the 1st, and net eagles on 1, 11, 13, 14, 15, and 16 — for 26 points across six holes! The rest… well, let’s just say there were “a few wipes in between.” Ah, golf — the beautiful madness that keeps us all coming back.

Transport Cup Final
Sharron Payne faced off against Carole Smith in the final — and Sharron delivered an absolute blinder, winning 5 & 4.
Her caddy, Cheli Larsen, claims she had something to do with it — a bit of friendly sledging? Or just quality moral support? Either way, the Payne–Larsen combo worked a treat.

Beryl Stephens 4BBB Trophy – Semi-Finals
The semi-final line-up is now set after Kayleigh Woodings and Annabel McCulloch went down narrowly 2 & 1 to Jeri Elliot and Sally Hicks-Beach. Poor Sally couldn’t stay for post-match drinks — she was off to Riverton to check on her house after this week’s storm that ripped through Southland. We hope all’s well down there, Sally!

Wrapping Up
Despite the wind, the waves, and the occasional sideways putt, it was another cracker of a day at Queenstown Golf Club. From the newcomers to the veterans, from Aussie mates to match play champions, everyone had something to celebrate — or at least laugh about over a cold one.
Until next week — keep your swings short, your putts firm, and your hats secured. The Kelvin Breeze waits for no one!
