 Irish Stableford – Sunday Update
Today we kicked off the first of our Irish Stableford competitions for the week, building nicely towards St Patrick’s Day on Tuesday. It certainly felt like the right weekend for it, with Ireland celebrating on the rugby field as well.
Ireland defeated Scotland 43–21 in their final 2026 Six Nations match at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday, securing the Triple Crown for the fourth time in five years after beating England, Wales and Scotland. A good omen for our Irish-themed golf this week.
On the course, Brendon O’Reilly had a blistering day, winning the competition with 92 Irish Stableford points. That included what he described as his best ever 18-hole gross round anywhere, which would have equated to an extraordinary 48 points in a standard Stableford. Safe to say that round will keep Brendon coming back to QGC for a while yet.
Other prize getters today were:
Special prizes went to:
-
Longest Putt (18th): Bill Grant
-
Nearest the Pin (10th): Keith Munro
-
Nearest the Pin (10th): Tilly Grant
Away from the main competition we also hosted four Men’s Pennants matches, with solid results across the board:
-
Junior B vs Wanaka: 2–2
-
Junior A vs Dunstan: 3–1 to Queenstown
-
Intermediate vs Wanaka: 2–2
-
Senior B vs Hawea: 3–1 to Queenstown
Peter Waaka will update the league tables shortly, but we are guessing things are looking pretty healthy for our Queenstown teams.
A great start to the Irish-themed week. More Irish Stableford fun to come before St Paddy’s Day on Tuesday.
