Thursday’s 9 Hole Stableford was played in absolutely perfect golfing conditions, with sunshine, calm weather and spectacular views reminding everyone why there are far worse ways to spend an afternoon than chasing a small white ball around Queenstown Golf Club.

The scoring was just as pleasant as the weather, with Peter Stevenson and Grant Hardy leading the way on 21 points apiece. Peter eventually grabbed top spot on countback, while a sizeable traffic jam formed just behind them with four players carding 19 points and a further 9 rounding out the prizes on 18 points. Clearly the calm conditions brought out everyone’s competitive side.

Unfortunately, there were no Nearest the Pin or Longest Putt prizes awarded today after resident professional Mitch Newport apparently forgot to actually put the markers out - an administrative masterclass.

Players wandered the greens unsure whether to celebrate good shots, pace out putts or simply admire the scenery. Some reports suggest golfers were seen standing on par 3 tees asking each other existential questions like, “Was that close enough?” and “Do we just trust each other now?”

We're hoping the weather was so good that most members were willing to forgive the minor logistical hiccup… this time.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed what was truly a spectacular day for golf. If the conditions continue like this, winter golf at Queenstown might start becoming dangerously enjoyable.
