Saturday's Irish Stableford once again proved why this format is such a favourite. The multiplication holes always keep everyone guessing, with plenty of players walking off the 12th thinking they were out of contention, only to storm home over the closing stretch.
And storm home they did. None more so than Bernt Carlsson!
While most of the prize-getters finished strongly, Bernt arrived home under full sail. Sitting nicely through the early part of his round, he absolutely exploded over the closing six multiplication holes, scoring 18 of his 21 regular stableford points (43 Irish points) during that stretch alone. The run included two net eagles and two net birdies, turning a good round into a spectacular one and powering him to victory with an outstanding 46 points. It was the sort of finish that leaves everyone else wondering where those extra gears were hiding all morning.
Peter Adam and John Kennedy both chased hard with excellent rounds of 43 points, while three players shared fourth through sixth on 42 points in another tightly fought competition.

Special Prizes
Nearest to the Pin Hole 7 – Steve Ridley – $20 Life Pharmacy Wilkinson's Voucher
Frozen greens made the Nearest to the Pin contest on the 7th hole particularly challenging. Balls were bouncing, skipping and refusing to stop anywhere near the flag... until Steve Ridley stepped up. Steve somehow managed to tame the icy putting surface with the shot of the day, claiming the $20 Life Pharmacy Wilkinson's Voucher. Sometimes all it takes is one golfer to make everyone else look ordinary.
Longest Putt Hole 9 – John Kennedy – $25 Neat Meat Voucher
The Longest Putt was reserved for the 9th hole, and John Kennedy delivered one that would have made a cross-country runner proud. His putt wandered across what felt like half the green before finally disappearing into the cup, earning him the $25 Neat Meat Voucher. It wasn't the most direct route to the hole, but it was certainly the most profitable.
The ladies' competition may have been smaller in numbers, but Lynda Baker made sure it wasn't short on quality. Lynda mastered the Irish Stableford format beautifully, posting the score of the day with 53 points, to comfortably take home first prize!
Ladies Irish Stableford Results
1st – Lynda Baker – 53 pts – $18
Congratulations to all of our winners. Irish Stableford always has a way of producing late drama, but Bernt's blistering finish over the multiplication holes will take some topping. It just goes to show that in this format, no lead is safe until the final putt drops.
