Frosty Beginnings – Delayed But Worth the Wait
This morning kicked off with Jack Frost clocking in for the early shift, bringing a one-hour frost delay to tee times. While the greens looked more like an ice rink than a golf course, spirits stayed warm and coffee cups full as players waited for the thaw.
By late morning, the fairways were back to green and the stage was set for some seriously cool golf – in every sense of the word.
Top of the Table – 9-Hole Stableford Results
After the frost and fireworks, it was Michael Wong who rose to the top, delivering a calm and composed round to take the win:
Leaderboard:
-
Michael Wong – 22 pts – $25
-
Billy Groves – 22 pts (on countback) – $20
-
Greg Carter, Geoff Cotton, Sean McSparron – all with 21 pts – $15 each
-
Steven Ridley & Martin Buckley – 20 pts – $8 each
-
James Han – 19 pts – $6
Solid scoring across the board, especially given the frosty start and slick conditions underfoot.
Ace of the Day – Matt Evans Makes Magic on 14
Step aside, Jack Nicklaus – there’s a new highlight reel in town.
Big-hitting Matt Evans absolutely flushed his 8-iron on Hole 14, sending it soaring straight into the cup for a Hole-in-One! That’s right – an ace, witnessed and confirmed, and no doubt celebrated in style.
They say good things come in threes… but we reckon one swing is enough when it’s that pure.
Eagle Eye – David Grant Delivers at 18
Not to be outdone, David Grant produced a touch of brilliance of his own, holing out for an eagle on the 18th. A well-struck approach and a green-reading masterclass had him walking off with a 3 on the scorecard – and likely a skip in his step all the way to the clubhouse.
Final Word
From icy greens to red-hot irons, today had a bit of everything – and a whole lot to talk about at the 19th. Congratulations again to Matt Evans on his ace, David Grant on his eagle, and all our prize winners for bringing the heat on a chilly winter’s morning.
See you next Sunday – same time, hopefully a little less frost, but just as much flair.
Cheers,
Your Queenstown Golf Shop Team – fuelling fairway fireworks, even on frozen mornings.
