Sunday served up another dose of Queenstown weather, with the wind howling off Lake Wakatipu and making sure nobody could simply stroll around the course without earning it! Between holding onto your hat, keeping your balance and trying to convince the golf ball to stay on its intended flight path, it was certainly a day to remember.
Thankfully, today's Pairs Special 6's Stableford format meant you had a partner to share the pain with. Nothing like watching your offsider battle the wind to remind you that golf is always better when you're suffering together!
Pairs Special 6's – Prize Winners
The winning partnership of Karen Troon and Janet Latham put together a cracking 67 points to take the honours and collect $35.00 each. That's a very impressive effort in conditions where the wind was doing its best to add a few extra strokes!
Bill & Kay Shaw took second place with 62 points, while Joel “Poppa” Popplewell and Matt Evans teamed up for third with 59 points.
Today's Prize Winners
1st — Karen Troon & Janet Latham — 67 points — $35ea
2nd — Bill Shaw & Kay Shaw — 62 points — $30ea
3rd — Joel Popplewell & Matt Evans — 59 points — $25ea
4th — Michael Taylor & Adrian Januszkiewicz — 58 points — $20ea
5th — Jamie Kirk & Jim Young — 58 points — $20ea
Congratulations to all our prize winners. In a format like this, teamwork is everything — and hopefully there were no post-round arguments about who was responsible for the one that flew sideways into the next fairway!
Matt Evans – An Eagle Two on the 8th!
A special shout-out to Matt Evans, who managed something rather spectacular today: an eagle two on the par-4 8th hole!
Matt's effort earned him the $30 Twos Jackpot credit, which is a pretty handy bonus to go with a memorable shot.
Twos Money
There were four players earning themselves a tidy $10 each for their twos today:
A two is always satisfying, but collecting a little prize money for it makes the putt drop all the sweeter.
Another Sunday Well Spent
Despite the wind trying its hardest to send everyone and everything towards the far end of the lake, there were some excellent scores and plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Congratulations again to Karen and Janet on their win, Matt on his eagle two and jackpot, and all our prize winners.
Good company, a bit of friendly competition and a few golfing highlights — even a howling Lake Wakatipu wind can't spoil a Sunday at QTGC!
